Are psychics and mediums the same?
While both evoke images of the supernatural, psychics and mediums are not exactly synonyms. According to Julie Beischel, Ph.D., of the Windbridge Research Center, “..all mediums are psychic but not all psychics are mediums. While anyone can potentially have mediumistic or psychic experiences, mediums experience regular communication from the deceased, and psychics regularly experience information about, or from, living people, distant locations or events, and/or times in the future or in the past (that they did not originally experience)”.
To put it simply, a psychic is someone gifted with a special intuition to be able to see, hear, taste, sense, or feel beyond the boundaries of the physical world. Yes, some psychics can foretell the future while others can read what other people are thinking. However, not all psychics possess the ability to talk with the dead, which is a gift that mediums have.
How can mediums communicate with the deceased?
All mediums have access to a psychic toolbox called “clairs” which they use to receive extraordinary information physically. These are:
1. Clairvoyance - or "clear seeing". This happens when a medium sees things that are not there or have not yet come to pass. It can be symbols, pictures, or even flashes of the past, present, and future. Think of it as the "second sight" or the intuitive "6th sense".
2. Clairaudience - This is another French term that means "clear hearing". A clairaudient medium hears words, sounds, whispers, voices, songs, or even the natural sounds of everyday things or of nature. These "messages" usually serve as a warning, guidance, or a loving message from our departed loved ones.
3. Clairsentience - or "clear feeling" is perhaps the most common of all four "clairs". It's the ability to sense other people's emotions without using our usual five senses (eyesight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell). When you can read the room or "trust your gut, " that's actually clairsentience in action.
4. Claircognizance - Do you feel like you just "know" things without knowing why? Do you interrupt conversations because you already know what the other person is about to say? Or perhaps, you know who's at the door even before you answer it. A claircognizant medium just "knows" specific things even when there's no logical explanation to back it up.
Okay, but what situations merit a session with a psychic medium?
There's no doubt about it; a psychic reading can change your life for the better. There are many types of spiritual readings, though, so if you want to get the most out of your session, you need to find the right one. If any of the following rings true, you need to ask specifically for a medium psychic advisor:
• You recently lost someone dear and need closure, answers, or reassurance.
• You feel like there are things left unsaid or questions that can only be answered from "the other side."
• You wish to remain connected with a lost loved one.
• You need help processing your grief and begin healing.
